In Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury describes what a happy life is NOT. He believes that being deprived of knowledge, and not thinking hard is not what makes people happy. When Clarisse and Montag have one of their talks, she describes school life, and how it affects the world around them. “They run us so ragged by the end of the day we can’t do anything but head to bed or head for a Fun Park to bully people around..”(27) Although the government gives them Fun Parks, the children and adults are still not happy with their lives, because people are constantly trying to commit suicide. In fact Montag’s wife, Mildred, attempts suicide Ray Bradbury believes that books and knowledge make people happy. When he was on a firemen job, a woman stayed with her burning house and was even burnt herself. This shows that Ray Bradbury believes that books are very important. What Montag says to his wife the next day shows Ray Bradbury’s opinion even more, “There has to be something in books, things we can't imagine to make a woman stay in a burning house, there must be something there. You don’t stay for nothing"(64) The fact that the woman decided to stay and burn with her books shows that the author really cares, and also believes that knowledge is worth dying for. When Montag goes to see Faber, a wise character who tries to help Montag understand books. When he first arrives he says something powerful, “I can't talk to the walls because they're yelling at me. I can't talk to my wife; she listens to the wall. I just want someone to hear what I have to say."(78) This shows Ray Bradbury’s opinion on electronics. I believe that he is trying to tell the readers that even with all the electronics that keep our attention and seem fun, we can’t truly be happy without human contact to relate to.

Don’t sleep on the job
The definition of sleep is as follows; a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended. Based on the definition from google.com, you would think that everyone sleeps the same, but you would be thinking wrong. In fact there are many ways that people take a snooze.
2. “The Feather Sleepers” If this sleeper is among your roommates, then you often hear “Be quiet i’m trying to sleep!”, you also know the embarrassment of being caught eating a whole cake at 12:00 am. “The Feather Sleepers” are easily recognised by their constant whining about how bad their night's rest was. This person can also be used as a wake up call, because of their unnatural ability to wake up at the slightest noise. So if you have work at the ungodly morning hours, you should become great friends with this sleeper. 3. “Insta Sleepers” You are having a conversation late at night with your friend and you turn away to sip your coffee and BAM! when you turn back they’re sleeping. “Insta Sleepers” are a bigger party pooper than the “Feather Sleepers”, because just when you all are having fun at your late night party, they fall asleep. These sleepers, bright eyed and bushy tailed at 4am, are always ready to tackle the day. If you are an “insta sleeper” there is a high possibility that people are annoyed by your unnatural morning peppyness. So please, tone it down a little, sincerely everyone. 4. “ Sleeping Beauty” Everyone knows Aurora the famous deep sleeping princess, and there is a chance that there is an Aurora amongst your group of friends. If you are acquainted with a “Sleeping Beauty” then you know the hardship of making late night plans, because even if they agree to it they don’t end up going anyways. On the flip side if you are a “Sleeping Beauty” then you know the satisfaction of having that deep, blissful sleep. The deep sleeper, commonly compared to a zombie, is not a morning person at all! For me sleeping has a deeper meaning that not many people think about. Sleeping is the only time in my day where I can look back on my day and think about all the important things that happened. Just remember if you had a bad day today when you go to sleep, it will be a new day for new opportunities for your life to get better. So no matter how you do it, sleep away. |
